WHY WE THINK YOU ARE HERE
Internet marketing books and downloadable SEO books can be a tremendous help when
undertaking a self-directed search engine optimization project as are online reference materials.
This page hosts a collection of internet marketing and downloadable SEO books we have found
useful, as well as links to some of the better resources we have found online.
INTERNET MARKETING BOOKS :
First, a listing of the internet marketing books we have found to be useful:
- Search Engine Optimization For Dummies, 2nd Edition; Peter Kent, Wiley Publishing Inc.,
2006, Indianapolis, Indiana. If you really are starting out from nothing, this is a good place to
start.
- HTML4 For Dummies Quick Reference, 2nd Edition; Deborah S. Ray Eric J. Ray; Wiley
Publishing, Inc., 2000, Hoboken, NJ. Face it; you are going to have to learn a bit of HTML.
- Search Engine Marketing, Inc. Driving Search Traffic to Your Company's Web Site; Mike
Moran and Bill Hunt, IBM Press, 2006, Upper Saddle River, NJ. For someone who's not a
beginner. This is a good reference guide. A lot more detail (as expected) than the dummies
book. Better for intermediate or expert SEOs.
- 101 Ways to Promote Your Web Site; 4th Edition; Susan Sweeney, C.A.; Maximum Press,
2003.
- Search Engine Visibility; Shari Thurow, New Riders, Berkeley CA, 2008. I like this book
because it gives you some how-to's and is a practical guide to SEO. Shari offers specific
help with optimizing images, flash and splash pages, video files, Podcasts and audio files.
DOWNLOADABLE SEO BOOKS :
SEO Book by Aaron Wall. The great thing about this downloadable SEO book is that it is
continuously updated by the author. The SEO Book website itself contains a lot of useful tools
and information. It has grown large and is not well maintained though. I find there are outdated
materials and broken links. The author is well known for his search engine optimization
expertise. If you need to buy just one book, this is probably the best one to start with for the
reason that he shares a lot of lessons learned along the way.
ONLINE REFERENCE MATERIALS :
The following online reference materials have all proved very helpful at one time or another.
Where we have not provided a link, please use your favorite search engine to find what we
reference as we are trying to save our link juice. If you put what's typed in blue in the search box,
the results we reference should come up as number 1.
- These are the RSS feeds we go back to time and again in order to find timely, informative
and useful SEO articles.
- Basic HTML For those of us who need a little help interpreting the source code behind our
website.
- Top SEO Books For Newbies - from Mihaela Lica who is a journalist, SEO consultant, public
relations and media consultant and formerly worked for the Romanian National Radio
Station as well as the Public Relations Directorate of the Romanian Ministry of Defense.
- Whatis.com IT Knowledge exchange: This is a virtual reference library of everything you ever
wanted to know about technology. Extremely easy to use and comprehensive.
- A Link Building Guide; Jim Westergren's online link building guide. I found this extremely
helpful. Check it out!!
