Effective link building services are a critical component of search engine optimization. Many
search engine optimization firms are going to tell you that "content is king". I think content is the
"Emperor's New Suit". A web site's content is virtually invisible unless you have good in-coming
and out-going links. In fact, all the major search engines will not index your web site unless there
is at least one other web site that links to yours.
EFFECTIVE LINK BUILDING SERVICES, STRATEGIES & SOURCES:
Both in-coming and out-going links influence the ranking of your web site:
- In-bound links from search engines and other web sites demonstrate the perceived value of
your site.
- Done sparingly, the exchange of reciprocal or three-way links with related web sites lets you
share valuable content with your visitors.
- Out-bound links (accepted by other high quality and reputable web sites) demonstrate your
site's trustworthiness, and willingness to help others.
The good source effective one-way link building services is online directories. The top two are
Yahoo (#1) and DMOZ (#2). Read and strictly follow their submission guidelines. Yahoo costs
$299 / year; you'll hear back from them quickly. DMOZ is free, but expect to wait a long time to
hear back from them, if at all. As an example, we waited 9 months to hear back from DMOZ.
Some subscribers don't get accepted and are never told the reasons why.
There many directories on the web . Be careful when choosing which directories to get listed in:
- Look to see if your competitors are listed. If none of your competitors are listed, they clearly
do not consider the directory valuable, so why should you?
- Confirm the directory does not accept sites associated with casinos, pharmacies, dating or
economically or ethically challenged web sites. You do not want to be associated with any of
these types of sites.
- Check to see how many web sites subscribe to the directory. If there is less than 1k overall,
don't bother listing your site. Check back at a later time to see if it has increased in popularity.
- Consider and weigh the size of the industry you are competing in and what you should expect
in terms of directory listings. Use one of the many free tools to check to see if the directory is
considered a link farm (not good).
- The link should use the keyword in the anchor test.
- The link between two web sites should point to pages with on-topic or related content.
- The link between two web sites should not use the HTML nofollow attribute or be hidden with
a scripting language (so search engines can't parse it).
Other good sources of effective link building services are the publication of articles and press
releases.
Some directories and many small business web sites ask for a reciprocal link in exchange for a
link back to their site. There is nothing wrong with accepting a reciprocal or 3-way link exchange
request. Check the items noted above and limit your selections to reputable directories and web
sites with related content. You can view our link exchange policy and procedures here.
Non-reputable directories will lower your web site ranking and drop your site from their listings
after a short amount of time. Unrelated niche sites will add no value to your web ranking so don't
bother. Ideal reciprocal links come from related, non-competing web sites. iBusinessPromoter
says one relevant, related web site link equals 5-20 unrelated, irrelevant web site links. Our site,
for example, values links from web design or SEO sites and sites that are in the same business
location as ourselves.
